“At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;/ Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,/…Where past & future is gathered.”
– T.S Eliot

Insomnia is endemic amongst people seeking asylum in the UK. Past trauma & present uncertainty create a state in which sleep is elusive, if not impossible. STILL POINT is a dance theatre piece set in the time between night and morning. A time when flashbacks invade the space of the mind, & past terrors are re-lived as present experience.

Onstage five figures hang in the abstract space between then & now, there & here, listening & responding to the soundscape woven by radios. The movement ricochets between extremes of stillness & violence as past, present & future intertwine & collide. Created using recorded testimony of those seeking sanctuary in the UK as the starting point for both movement & sound-art, STILL POINT asks what happens when someone forced into flight is never allowed to rest.
